The serpents gifted nectar to Bhīma. They made a bed for Bhīma where he slept soundly for eight days. The rest of the Pāndavas could not find Bhīma. They assumed Bhīma had returned to Hastināpura earlier and they also went back. Duryodhana however was elated assuming Bhīma was dead.

Kunti was apprehensive and suspected that Duryodhana may have killed Bhīma. Vidhura comforted Kunti that Bhīma will return. He also advised Kunti that she should take care of the other brothers. It took Bhīma eight days to digest the Amruta and then he woke up.

Yuyutsu was fond of Pāndavas and warned the Pāndavas that Duryodhana has poisoned the food. Bhīma was aware that the food was poisoned. He ate the food and digested it completely. The poison could not work.

Śaradvān was a Rishi born with arrows. Therefore he was more interested in learning about weapons. He started accumulating weapons through Tapas which worried Indra. He sent the apsaras Jānavatī to distract him. Śaradvān started getting distracted but he became conscious of the distraction. He abandoned his belongings including the weapons and tried to leave the place. Meanwhile his vital fluid got discharged and fell on the string of the bow and twins were born.

Shāntanu was the ruling king at that time. His servant found the twins and brought them to Shāntanu who then adopted them as his own sons. As they were brought up by the compassion of Shāntanu, they were named as Kṛpa and Kṛpī.

Droṇa married Kṛpī. When Aśvatthāmā was born to them he cried like a horse. Therefore an Aśarīrī decreed that he should be named Aśvatthāmā.

Paraśurāma had proclaimed that he would give away all his belongings to Brāhmanas. Droṇa met Paraśurāma and sought his belongings. Paraśurāma told Droṇa that he had already given away his belongings and he was left only with his body and his astras. Droṇa sought Paraśurāma's astras and the knowledge of using them.

When the Kuru princes were playing, the ball fell into a well. They were unable to pull the ball out. Droṇa offered to pull the ball out if the princes promised him food for one night. He then threw blades of grass one by one like a series of arrows and plucked the ball out of the well. He also threw his ring into the well and pulled it out with an arrow. He then asked the astonished princes to inform their grandfather, Bhīṣma. Bhīṣma recognised that it must be Droṇāchārya and then sought him out as a Guru for the princes.

Droṇāchārya was asked by Bhīṣma to become a Guru for the princes. Karṇa (Vasusena) was also included in this group. Droṇāchārya taught everyone without any partiality.

Jiṣṇu is a name for Arjuna. It means someone who has an unbroken record of victories.

Niṣādas were adharmic. They were enemies of the Kuru kingdom. Therefore Droṇāchārya refused to teach Ekalavya. It is a myth that Droṇāchārya refused to teach him because of his caste.

Droṇāchārya was very impressed with the devotion and skill of Arjuna. He taught him several skills in archery and warfare. He also instructed the cook to ensure that the lamps don't go off when Arjuna is eating. However, one day the lamps went off. Arjuna realized that he was able to eat even in darkness. He realised that he will also be able to use his bow and arrow in darkness with practice. Thereafter he started practicing in darkness also.

Once a crocodile caught hold of Droṇāchārya's thigh and he cried for help purposefully to test his disciples. While everyone was stunned, Arjuna struck five arrows and killed the crocodile. Droṇāchārya was pleased with Arjuna and taught him the use of Brahmāstra. He also laid down rules for its use - It cannot be used against a human and it cannot be used against someone weaker than Arjuna.

Arjuna has been addressed by several names in Mahābharatam each reflecting one of his many attributes. One such is Bibhatsu. This means one who is always fair in a battle, following the prescribed Dharma.
