After losing the second round of dice, Pāṇḍavas exited Hastināpura. The word Vardhamāna generally means prosperity. However, in some granthas, exit/entrance gates were named such as Nanda, Jaya etc. As per Mahābhāratam here it means Northern gate.

They wanted to be with pure, honest and dhārmic people rather than pāpis. By being in the company of the pāpis they will be incurring sins and will destroy their intellect. Yudhiṣṭhira wanted them to return and take care of Vidura, Bhīṣma etc.

One who has freed himself from worldly objects just because they were unattainable is not a true renunciate. One who though being in actual contact with the world is well aware of its faults is a true renunciate. One who is free from evil desires and not leaning on anything that is impermanent is a renunciate.

Acquiring and protecting wealth gives a lot of grief. It is the ignorant alone who are discontented. The wise, however, are always content. Yudhiṣṭhira said he liked wealth merely to support Brāhmaṇas as per his dharma and not due to greed.

Yudhiṣṭhira speaks about a Mahāyagnam where one feeds others before consuming themselves. When one feeds Devas, Pitṛs, birds, animals, cāndālas before eating he is considered to consume Amrtam (nectar). This yagnam has to be done every day.

Food given to one's own dear and near ones would not be considered Dānam. Any food provided to someone before eating, without any biases or preferences is Dānam.

When Yudhiṣṭhira sought advice from Dhaumya for advice as to how to sustain the Brāhmaṇas, the priest using his Yogic powers asked Yudhiṣṭhira to pray to Sūrya Devata. Sun is the father of all living things. He listed Surya Deva's 108 names. By chanting thedse names one gets fame and memory power.

The Sūrya stuti was passed on from Brahma to Indra, to Nārada, to Dhaumya to Yudhiṣṭhira. Sūrya bhagavān gifted Yudhiṣṭhira with the boon of adequate food for 12 years. He gifted him a copper Vessel, that will give inexhaustible source of tasty food if some cooked food is kept in that vessel.

Blessed with the copper vessel gifted by Sūrya Devata, Yudhiṣṭhira himself cooked for that day. The cooked food was then distributed first to the Brāhmaṇas, then to his brothers, Yudhiṣṭhira and finally Draupadī ate - in this order.

Vidura advised Dhṛtarāṣṭra to treat Pāṇḍavas and Kauravas alike; Advise Duryodhana to rule the kingdom jointly with Pāṇḍavas or else abandon him; Duḥśāsana should seek forgiveness from Bhīma and Draupadī before the open assembly. Śakuni should be disgraced. Just as a sick person dislikes medicine the doomed Dhṛtarāṣṭra did not like Vidura's advice.
