A gigantic serpent caught her. She wailed ‘Hey prabhu - you let me alone, who is here to protect me?!’. At this moment a hunter rescued her by killing the snake.

Damayanti reached the kingdom of Chedi, where the Rājamātha recognized her noble character and offered her a role as "Sairandhrī " (harem friend) of her daughter Sunanda.

The five conditions were: 1) She should not be given left over food, 2) She will not wash anyone's feet, 3) She will not speak with strange men 4) She would need assistance from Brahmins to find out her husband and 5) The Queen mother should punish the gents who misbehave with her and if they repeat the mistake again they should be killed.

The serpent kārkotaka, whom Nala rescued from a forest fire, bit him with an intention. The bite transformed Nala into the deformed Bāhuka, to protect him from Kali and concealing his identity.

In Forest, she followed / travelled along with Nala, then traders whose leader was Śuciḥ and finally some Brahmins to reach Chedi Kingdom. Manibhadran was the Yaksha king protecting the forest.

He divided it into halves with a sword so that he can leave Damayanti while she was sleeping.

When there is conflict, choose the higher dharma even if it is more difficult because it's the correct thing to do. To know which is the higher dharma, understand the subtleness of Dharma.

Kārkotaka instructed Nala to go to king Ṛtūparṇan of Ayodhya. There, he would serve as a charioteer, learn the secret of dice and eventually regain his kingdom and unite with Damayanti.

Damayanti's purity and unwavering fidelity protected her when the hunter developed sinful intentions towards her. He was destroyed by the power of her chastity - pativratā dharmam.

Damayanti wandered through the forest calling out for Nala with sorrow and asking the passers-by regarding Nala.

Nala and Damayanti were in the forest. They were hungry and so Nala ventured to get some fruits and vegetables. At that time a flock of birds with plumage of golden colour flew by. Seeing them, Nala used the lone piece of cloth that he had, to catch them. They spoke to him thus "Hey fool Nala, we were the dice that you played with. We wanted to strip you of this piece of cloth too" and flew away with the cloth.

After he reached Ayodhya, Nala (Bāhukan) told King Ṛtūparṇan that he was good with horses and he was an able cook too. Hearing this the king appointed him the chief of his stables with a salary of 10,000 gold coins. He also appointed two assistants - Varhsneyan and Jeevanan and treated Nala well.

Nala and Damayanti had two children names Indrasenan and Indrasenā.

Kārkotaka who was cursed by the revered Sage Narada, requested Nala to rescue him and free him from the curse. He asked Nala to carry him and while letting him down count the steps. Nala started counting from one (in sanskrit) and as he said Daśa to indicate the number Ten, Kārkotaka bit him as the word 'Daśa' also means 'Bite'.

The word sairandhrī means Beautician (hair stylist) to royal women (Queen / princess etc.)
