Ravana declared that he was going to fight directly. Ravana came with full force and started killing Vanaras with his arrows and they sought refuge at Rama's feet. Sugriva and Nila were injured.

Lakshmana took Rama's permission to fight Ravana. Rama warned Lakshmana that even Indra will be exhausted if he fights with Ravana. Lakshmana attacked Ravana. Lakshmana cut off Ravana's bow, and he was upset. He took the spear given by Maya and hurled it at Lakshmana. Lakshmana could not stop it with his arrows, and he fell unconscious.

Ravana tried to lift him from the ground, but he could not, even though Ravana has lifted the Kailas mountain in the past. Rama used a special concoction of medicines to treat Lakshmana, Sugriva, and Nila, and they were quickly cured of their injuries.

Hanuman carried Rama on his shoulder so that he could fight Ravana. A fierce fight ensued, and the oceans started shaking wildly. Ravana shot at Hanuman and that made him fall unconscious.

Rama took an arrow and shot it towards Ravana's chest. Ravana fainted on the deck of his chariot. His bow fell from his hands, losing his grip on it. Seeing that Ravana had become weak, Rama destroyed the chariot along with the charioteer, and flag posts, umbrellas, and the golden crowns.

Ravana stood there in anguish. Rama told Ravana: "Looks like you are too tired and upset to fight now. Go home tonight. Go back to your palace, get ready and come tomorrow morning to fight again."

Ravana narrated all the events to Kumbhakarna. Hearing this, Kumbhakarna replied that “If one does not know how to see the good from the bad, he must listen to wise people when they advise them. Vibhishana pleaded to return Sita to Rama but you did not listen. That is the beginning of all the decline for you. Good advisers consider the various aspects of time, four alternatives, and six principles in deliberating on any topic.”

Kumbhakarna told Ravana that he had happened to see sage Narada while living near the Ashram of Nara Narayana. He had asked Narada about the happenings around the world. Narada had told Kumbhakarna that the Devas went to Lord Vishnu requesting his help to kill Ravana. Since Ravana can be killed only by a human the Lord decided to take birth as a human being.

Kumbhakarna told Ravana that he is certain that Rama is Lord Vishnu's incarnation, and that they should fear for their lives.

Kumbhakarana advised Ravana that they should take refuge in Rama. They should extoll his virtues all the time, mentally and physically, in words and deeds. Devotion is the only way to liberation and without devotion, any work will be futile. Just by chanting Rama's name, moksha is possible. Even Lord Siva chants Rama's name.

Wise men of discrimination keep his form in their minds all the time, chant his name and tell his stories in Satsang. He is bliss personified.

You may recall that this advice mirrors the nine-fold path that Rama had shared with Sabari.

Kumbhakarna entered the battle ground and started killing and eating Vanaras. Vibhishana prostrated at Kumbhakarna’s feet and begged for his mercy and blessings. He told Kumbhakarna that Ravana kicked him out when Vibhishana advised Ravana to return Sita; and that he then sought refuge at Rama's feet. Kumbhakarna embraced his brother and told him to continue to serve Rama. He asked Vibhishana to serve Rama and live on this earth for a long time.

After a ferocious fight in which Kumbhakarna killed several vanaras, he was eventually killed by Rama.

Rambodha hill marks the spot where Hanuman ji first landed in Sri Lanka. It is also the place where Rama's troops or "bodhas" camped. A hill to the southern side of the Rambodha hill is called Ravanbodha and is believed to be where Ravana's army camped. The Chinmaya Mission maintains a temple at Rambodha which has a twenty foot granite deity of Hanumanji.

After Hanumanji landed in Sri Lanka and located Sita mata, Ravana moved her to a labyrinth of caves. The caves open out at strategic places that are associated with Ravana's life like his dairy farm, his airport, his place of meditation etc. The caves are located in Istripuram. Even though they are well known these are not frequented. There is no religious worship in the place.
