Jarāsandha always used to demean Krishna. So, he dismissed him as a lowly cowherd whom he did not wish to fight with. Arjuna was thin and looked like a little boy, So, he preferred Bhīma as somewhat of an equal stature to himself.

As soon as Balarāma was born (after having been transferred to Rohini's womb), he looked very attractive to look at. Hence he was named 'Saṃkarṣaṇa'.

The Divine chariot (belonging to the Devas) was used by Indra (along with Vishnu) to vanquish 99 Asurās in the past. When Bhagavān remembered his past battles on the chariot and Garuda on the flag-staff, immediately Garuda flew and sat on it.

Sampūrna mūrchai immobilises the opponent's body. Locking opponent's arms after making one lie on their stomach was called Pūrna kumbham, Folding and squishing an opponent's body like a blade of grass was called Tṛṇapeedam.

After whirling Jarāsandha for 100 times in the air, he then broke him into two and let out a loud roar. This, combined with Jarāsandha's death cries struck fear in the heart of all those present. The pregnant women of Magadha delivered their babies prematurely.

After Jarāsandha vadha the brothers went on a Digvijayam to establish Yudhiṣṭhira's sovereignty as a mandatory requirement for performing Rājasūya yāga. While Arjuna conquered the North, Sahadeva the South, Bhīma covered the East and the West was subdued by Nakula.

After hearing Bhīma's intentions, Śiśupāla received him with respect and provided all hospitality. Pleased with Śiśupāla's hosting, Bhīma stayed with him for 30 days end enjoyed his hospitality.

Bhīma had tremendous and uninterrupted success in his conquests of Eastern direction. After conquering many regions he arrived at Anga desa and encountered Karṇa. He subjugated Karṇa also. A few of the kingdoms he visited include Videha, Pānchala, Chedi, Ayodhya, Kāśi etc.

Sahadeva fought a very tough battle with Kind Neela. However, he couldn't defeat him as he was assisted by Agni Deva. Agni had a liking for the daughter of the king and he would blaze up only if the king's daughter fanned the fire by blowing the air through her lips. After Agni married the daughter he pledged his loyalty to the king and thus King Neela was invincible to his foes.

They fought for 13 days and nights without a break, food or sleep. On the fourteenth day Jarāsandha was getting fatigued. Krishna hinted to Bhīma the plight of Jarāsandha and urged to finish him off soon.

People belonging to all the 4 Varṇas watched the terrible fight with awe and great interest.
