After the conclusion of Rājasūya Yajna, Bhīṣma narrates the greatness of Krishna and Viśvarūpa. He describes how Hari gave birth to water and from there Brahmā appeared. Similarly, at the end of the world, Hari alone remains. If the entire world is like a garland, Hari is the thread that strings them together. The whole world is filled with Hari.

During a Pralaya, all living creatures were drowned. Madhu and Kaitabha were large creatures living under the ocean. At the prodding of Brahmā, Vāyu filled their bodies further and they become enormous. Brahmā named them Madhu and Kaitabha. They roamed all over the world without fear and eventually started fighting with Viṣṇu. The war prolonged indefinitely. Viṣṇu offered them a boon and both of them sought to be killed by Viṣṇu and to be born again as the sons of Viṣṇu.

Medhini comes from the word Medhu which means fat. After Viṣṇu killed Madhu and Kaitabha, they fell into water and merged into one body. The fat that emerged from the body filled the water and covered the earth. Since earth was covered with fat (Medhu) earth is also called Medhini.

A sloka in Brahmāṇḍa Purāṇa refers to earth as Medhini. Bhagavān Shankaracharya has used this sloka as the Dhyāna Sloka in his Bhashya on Bhagavad Gita.

Varāha Avatar is compared to sacred parts of Yajna. Veda is also of the form of Varāha Bhagavān and Vedas decorate the body of Varaha. The ghee of the Yajna is his nose. The syllable "Svā" used in Yajna is his mouth. The sound of Sāma Veda is Varāha's roar. Yajna Peetha is his shoulder. Dharma becomes his divine appearance itself.

Hiraṇyakaśipu was the King of everyone opposed to Devas. He ruled all three worlds and caused immense pain to everyone. He had done extraordinary tapas and had controlled his senses, mind and practiced Brahmacharya. Brahmā was impressed with his Tapas and appeared with his entire family in front of Hiraṇyakaśipu and offered a boon. Hiraṇyakaśipu sought near-invincibility and protection from curses and hardships. Brahmā granted all the boons. Devas were apprehensive and asked Brahma to find a way to kill Hiraṇyakaśipu. Brahma told the Devas that Hiraṇyakaśipu will certainly earn the merit of his Tapas; and after that Viṣṇu would appear to kill him.

The description of various avatars in Sabhā Parva is concise. In the description of Narasimha avatar, Bhīṣma describes how Viṣṇu took the form of Narasimha and killed Hiraṇyakaśipu. The description does not feature Prahlāda as the focus is on Krishna.

At one point, the entire Vedic practice disappeared. Dharma was weak and adharma started becoming universal. Population decreased. Dattātreya revived Vedas and Dhārmic practices through Yajna. He reinstated the four varṇas.

Sahasrārjuna was the eldest son of Kritavirya. He ruled from Mahishmati and was also called Kārtaviryan. He served Dattāreya and obtained four boons. One of them was to be killed by Viṣṇu himself.

While narrating Bhagavān Sri Krishna's earlier Avatārs, Bhīṣma recounts Paraśurāma avatār, wherein He vanquished hundreds of thousands of Kṣatriyas who were against Brāhmaṇas. He used His powerful bow and sharp arrows, axe and other weapons to destroy them.
