When Pradyumna overpowered Śālva and was about to slay him, the celestials with Indra as their head sent a message to Pradyumna through Nārada and Vāyu not to do so. This was because Brahmāji had ordained that Śālva must die at the hands of Bhagavān Krishna.

When Krishna returned to Dwāraka after the Yagna, he found the city depressed and without any Vedic chants. The gardens were destroyed and the women were not wearing any ornaments. This woeful state was due to the invasion of Śālva.

'Anakadundubhi' is another name for Vasudeva.

Hearing about Śālva ravaging Dwāraka, Krishna got ready to kill him. He requested Āhuka and Anakadundubhi to care of the city till he came back. Āhuka was Ugrasena and Devaka's father, so Krishna's maternal great-grandfather.

The battle between Krishna and Śālva was fierce. Dāruka, Krishna's charioteer lost his patience as he thought Bhagavān was going easy on Śālva as the battle was going for a while. He urged Bhagavān to slay Śālva who destroyed Dwāraka. With Agni Astram He destroyed Śālva's chariot and Dānava warriors. With His Sudarśana Chakra Bhagavān destroyed Saubha, the kingdom of Śālva and also Śālva himself - cutting him into two.

Yudhiṣṭhira liked Arjuna's recommendation and said that if Arjuna recommends something, then that place should be really good. Saying thus they proceeded to the lake. That place was sanctified by Agnihotris, Vaidikas, Sanyāsis and Vānaprasthas. The place was serene and pleasant.

Mārkandeya smiled at the Pāṇḍavas who were in exile. Yudhiṣṭhira was visibly upset at this and therefore asked the Rishi the reason for his smile. Mārkandeya said that he too like others, regretted at the fate of the Pāṇḍavas. He was recollecting the incomparable Sri Rāma who underwent difficulty to uphold Dharma. However mighty one may be, one should not resort to Adharma. Ishe balasya iti na caret adharmam. The Rishi said this as a universal principle for the entire society.

Dhālbhya (sage Baka) was conversing with Yudhiṣṭhira. He was glorifying the combination of Brāhmaṇa Shakti and Kshatriya power and said such a combination would consume all enemies. An intelligent Kshatriya should always take the advice of a Brāhmaṇa.

Recollecting the terrible happenings that were the outcome of the evil designs of the wicked four - Duryodhana, Duḥśāsana, Śakuni and Karṇa Draupaī was astonished how Yudhiṣṭhira could remain calm and not get angry at their atrocities. She said that he should not be so forgiving to the foe of such proportions. She quoted the story of conversation between Prahlāda and Mahābali, the son of Virochana, where the topic of forgiveness vs might was advised.

When one commits a wrong knowingly, should be punished according to the offence, even if the offender pleads ignorance.

Power as well as forgiveness should not be practised absolutely at all times. A person who always forgives will be considered weak, will be exploited, harmed, disrespected and the wise don't approve of him. A person who never forgives and always exercises power will be hated by relatives, others and will get estranged from friends. Therefore, forgiveness and might have to be used appropriately at different times
