When Draupadī wanted Yudhiṣṭhira to be angry, Yudhiṣṭhira quoted the words of elders and listed the defects of an angry person. Such a person will not see anything in its true sense and will always be judgemental, coloured by his own views. Anger is not a power but one's weakness.

Yudhiṣṭhira told Draupadī that Duryodhana had to be slain, but that is not a valid reason for him to be prone to 'anger' which has a multitude of defects. Duryodhana was not a patient person, he was prone to anger. Hence he was unfit to be a ruler.

A frustrated Draupadī got angrier and said that the Dharma that was protected by Yudhiṣṭhira hasn't protected him now. He had the entire world under his feet and even this did not make him proud. He did all Yagnās. Now he had lost everything but was still holding on to Dharma, which is inseparable from him.

She was upset that adharmi Duryodhana was prospering while Yudhiṣṭhira who always followed Dharma was suffering, This made her put forth Nirīśwara argument, accusing God of impartiality. In Yudhiṣṭhira's words she spoke like an atheist.

One who doubts Dharma will be born as a lowly creature. It appears as if those who don't protect Dharma are prosperous. But in truth they will never be happy. Dharma is like a boat that carries one to the shore of Svargam. These were the words of Yudhiṣṭhira to Draupadī.

Yudhiṣṭhira who listened patiently to Draupadī replied with profound words of wisdom. He asked Draupadī to remember how she and Dhṛṣṭadyumna were born due to the Dhārmic actions of Drupada via Yagna and good actions.

Yudhiṣṭhira's replies to Draupadī form a beautiful section in the whole of Mahābharatam.
Rishis, Munis followed Dharma. Their teachings should not be denied or refuted. In the end Dharma will win.

While accepting destiny, Draupadī was questioning inaction on the part of Yudhiṣṭhira. Inaction is the nature of the dead and not the living. Human effort is supreme and one has to fight adharma.

Following Draupadī's dialogue there was brief pause. An angry and belligerent Bhīma jumped in and started accusing Yudhiṣṭhira. He said the Pāṇḍavas' current predicament was due to Yudhiṣṭhira's following Dharma. Following Dharma for its own sake will lead to suffering only. Bhīma said that the Pāṇḍavas should have killed the Kauravas then and there when they were humiliated during the Dyūta incident.

Bhīma, who was also frustrated at their predicament, spoke out his thoughts. Dharma will lead to prosperity and happiness. One who is misled by pleasure or covetousness, disregarding Dharma, deserves to be killed by all. Scriptures ordain one should practise virtue in the morning, wealth at noon, and pleasure in the evening. In life's stages - one should seek pleasure in the first portion of life, wealth in the second, and virtue in the last.
