According to our Dharma Śāstram we have 5 fathers
जनिता चोपनेता च, यस्तु विद्यां प्रयच्छति ||
अन्नदाता भयत्राता, पंचैते पितरः स्मृताः
1.One's biological father(Janita): The man who gives birth to a person.
2.The one who did upanayana for me (Upaneta or Guru): The teacher who performs the sacred thread ceremony (Upanayana samskāra) and initiates one into spiritual knowledge.
3.The one who imparts education/knowledge (Yasya vidyām prayacchati): The teacher or mentor who provides worldly and spiritual education.
4.The one who provides food/sustenance (Annadātā): The person who provides food and necessities, thereby sustaining life.
5.The one who saves from danger (Bhayatrātā): The person who rescues one from a crisis situation.
