When it comes to action based transactions one has a choice. Action is Kartṛ tantram.

There is no Pramāṇa required to know that you exist as you are self-evident.

There are Six Pramāṇas or valid means of knowledge as per vedānta. They are Pratyakṣa, Anumāna, Upamāna, Arthāpatti, Anupalabdhi and Śabda

Upamāna is the Pramāṇa that uses comparison / analogy to reveal an unknown by using a known thing.

Laukīka and Vaidīka Śabda are the two types. Laukīka uses ordinary words while Vaidīka uses words from the Vedas.

Knowledge is called Vastu Tantram in Sanskrit. It is dependent on the object.

This is a unique Pramāṇa which reveals non-perception.

Bhagavān Krishna says reassuringly in the 6th Chapter of the Gīta that a person who has acquired knowledge but is unable to complete his journey in this lifetime would have an exalted birth to help him progress further.

In the case of Indirectly beneficial knowledge, one can talk of theory and practice. Not in the case of Directly beneficial knowledge - where knowing itself benefits one.

Knowledge dawns when one studies systematically and employ relevant means of knowledge under the guidance of a competent teacher. Knowledge happens 'in tuition' rather than through intuition.
